defrag takes forever
DeFrag the drive. You can't trust the fragmentation % numbers shown by DeFrag, especially with a big drive. I would Defrag that drive once a week, regardless of the % number DeFrag shows, to keep it running at best speed. Also DeFrag after removing any major program. Check the settings for your virus scan program.

Vista Defrag
I tried opening the dialog with and without the extension and the "Clear Private Data" window pops open immediately for me. Maybe there's another extension causing a conflict? Perhaps I should do a system-defrag (Auslogics makes something quite good in that respect) more often. Typically, here, I defrag maybe twice

Alternatively, @ a pinch, you could use MS's Defrag, though before you use either I recommend you set your swap file to a fixed size [though I'd recommend you do this anyway regardless of what else you are doing - set min & max to 2.5x your amount of installed physical RAM]. If you have to resort to MS Defrag open

Word XP professional is soooo slow to open and close.
I think it probably would be good to stop access during the defrag as I am not sure DiskKeeper can defrag open files. Even if it can it would probably severely impact any kind of performance while running. Leonard On Fri, 07 Dec 2001 04:41:22 GMT, Tom and Carmela Kustner <kustner*no*@*spam*myrealbox.com> wrote: We

Any help will be great Thank you DFO will not touch a file that is open. In general, to totally defrag a system disk, it needs to be dismounted and another system disk be booted, then mount the target disk as a private disk with no files open and defrag it. The method I use to defrag a Win98 box follows, but be aware, it is not for the weak hearted. You must be comfortable editing system files to use this procedure. When it comes up, instead of starting the desktop, it will start defrag, and there will be NO background apps. Follow the prompts, run your defrags,
